 The Fuchsia Species

The Fuchsia species originate from Central & South America, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand and Tahiti. However the vast majority grow in the cloud forests of the Andes where they flourish in a climate that is fairly constant all year round. This means that apart from the Fuchsia magellanica types from Chile they should not be considered as hardy out of this natural environment, the U.K. for example.  The Fuchsia species are of course the basis of all the cultivars we have today but owing to the more extreme weather conditions and shorter seasons  found in the U.K they cannot be expected to perform as well as our modern hybrids.

If you would like to try plants from this section please do so out of interest and curiosity for the species, rather than as flowering subjects for pots, tubs or garden.

Below is a small selection of pictures of the many Fuchsia Species that exist, and a name only list of the one's we stock.
